Alica Wyatt- Pilates

Alisa has been teaching Pilates since 1999 when she left her high-powered publishing job to spread her passion for Pilates. She’s an often a featured expert for Pilates Style Magazine and is the creator of a series of acclaimed Pilates videos: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Pilates Workout and Pilates for Men, as well as a sought-after presenter at fitness conferences.

A Pilates purist, Alisa was trained and certified by Pilates legend, Romana Kryzanowska, in New York City where she ran a highly successful studio for a decade before moving home to California. A believer in learning from the source, Alisa has sought out training from those who were trained by Mr. Pilates himself. She studied with the late Kathy Grant in New York and currently trains with one of the few remaining teachers who worked for Mr. Pilates: Jay Grimes.

When she’s not traveling the globe filming classes with world-renowned instructors for Pilatesology, Alisa spends her time in Hermosa Beach, CA, where she and Jack get outside as much as possible- surfing, hiking and playing. Alisa believe that Pilates is what allows them to lead active, healthy lives.

Alisa’s client list includes Olympic athletes, supermodels and real people who want to look and perform at their absolute best. Pilates with Alisa is a personalized, vigorous, whole body workout that creates a long, lean, balanced physique.

The trips hosted by Escape to Shape are an amazing way to enjoy your time off. The trips are the perfect mix of high quality service, outstanding food, exotic locations, physical activity, spiritual well-being and cultural activities. In a nutshell, if you are looking for time to spend by yourself, with a friend or spouse, Escape to Shape has something for everyone. I have been on 2 Escape to Shape trips and they were both magical in their own unique ways. The rooms are spacious, clean and surrounded by nature. The food is outstanding – healthy, fresh, ethnic. The locations are exotic, safe and stimulating. The service is attentive, warm, and caring. The yoga is outstanding – with wonderful teachers from around the world who are all incredibly inspiring. The cultural activities are wonderful – unique to the location, adventurous and memorable. Most importantly, the trip feels like a home away from home. The hosts and guests of Escape to Shape are warm, inviting and sharing. You leave the trips with new experiences, new friends and a renewed sense of well-being. I highly recommend Escape to Shape. I was hesitant to book a group trip, considering myself a bit more of an independent traveler who likes a bit of luxury and a lot of local culture. Boy was I pleased that I did so anyway!
The owners have your best interests in mind and they are always there, seeing to your every need. However, I didn’t need much because they did the most amazing job of planning my first group trip ever!
They perfectly combined luxury accommodation, excellent local cuisine (even for my vegetarian needs), outdoors activities, local cultural experiences, Pilates and yoga taught by excellent teachers, and some relaxation time all into 1 week. All I needed to do was purchase a plane ticket to transport me there!
I don’t typically write reviews, but this experience demanded that I do because it was so great. I came away feeling relaxed and energized, having learned things about the local culture, made a bunch of new friends, exercised and ate well every day and even did a little shopping!
The all-local staff did a great job and I was happy to see that they employed people from the community there. I am definitely going to join their future trips and hope to be able to do so once every year.
Beyond Exploring, OCT 2008

Morocco was my 2nd ETS adventure – I have been on 3 to date (Sicily, Morocco, Colombia) and plan on doing more. All three have been excellent trips/adventures.
I was reluctant at first to go on a “group trip” with a bunch of people I had never met but a friend talked me into it. I travel for work and pleasure a lot and consider myself to be an excellent planner etc. therefore having a trip planned by others was not appealing. I was so glad I went. There was/is scheduled activities (yoga, hikes, excursions, cooking, shopping) but you are free to do as much or as little as you please and if you choose to create your own excursion, they will assist you with anything you choose to do. The people I met (including the 2 hosts who are just the coolest) are all interesting, fun, intelligent people who share a love for travel etc. In fact, I still keep in touch with them regularly and see them when I am traveling to their hometowns for work or fun. I have found it is hard to get a group of friends to commit to long trips and especially who are not wary of some of the places I want to go for whatever reasons. ETS provides a wonderful trip for those who need to get away either alone or with friends. After I raved about my experiences, 3 friends joined me on the Colombia trip and I coordinated my time there around friends I had met on previous trips as well – everyone loved it.
The accommodations have all been fabulous. You are basically staying in a private mansion with your own personal staff. They do an amazing job of making you feel at home and anticipating your every need. As luxurious as each are, they are also very comfortable and the laid back atmosphere is most relaxing. Your really feel at home.
While I choose not to participate in a lot of the yoga – I do love the excursions. They are all very culture rich and each excursion is different. You really feel like you are getting to experience the culture first hand and not as a tourist.
The food is fresh and delish. I have continued to make tagine & traditional couscous at home as well. The cooking classes are fun and interactive. Some of the best fun is at mealtime when everyone is sitting around the table chatting.
The price is very fair especially when you consider all that it includes: transportation to/from airport, accommodations, all food, unique excursions, daily yoga/workouts, massages, cooking lessons and even local flavor: belly dancing, camel trek, etc. I don’t know where else you can all of these things with first class accommodations for less or even for the price.
I highly recommend Escape to Shape to anyone looking for a trip that has it all… great accommodations, delicious food, fun people, fantastic cultural experiences all centered around a healthy lifestyle!!! The hosts really go above and beyond to make your time with them amazing.
